I attended a biblical training session on womanhood. All of the discussions were helpful, but the one that stuck out to me the most was about the single woman. The encouragement I have for all single men and women is this:
“Your primary role in life is NOT to get married, but to glorify God.”
Sometimes when we hear the word single, dating couples tend to shrug and be thankful they have found a “significant other.” However, when I say single, I mean not married. I recall desperate seasons in life when I believed that my deepest desire and purpose was to be married. Now, my perspective on singleness has changed. My end goal in life is not to get married. My end goal is to live in a way that gives God the most glory.
If getting married will bring God more glory, let me marry!
If being single will bring God more glory, let me remain single!
Colossians 3:17 AMP says, “Whatever you do [no matter what it is] in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus [and in dependence on Him], giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”
I hope you want to glorify God with your life also! So often the season or lifestyle of singleness has been devalued as less important than other seasons or lifestyles, but I’m here to remind you that it is MORE! God uses singles to bless others and experience him in deep ways too!
Here are 5 examples of influence that are unique to singleness.
1.Friendships
You have more time to invest in friends, take trips, and see the world together without reservation.
2. Roommates
You get to live with people in similar stages of life. Some have the opportunity to live with a family, and observing how they live may influence you in your future.
3. Disciple younger believers
You can go out, take long trips, stay up late, and even invite other younger believers alongside you as you are going in your life. You are able to spend uninterrupted time with others.
4. Missions
You can freely take long or short trip commitments that require more planning and logistics for others. You’re able to blaze trails and see sights for the glory of the Lord.
5. Serving
Staying late after church or arriving early to events can be a wonderful way to use your time. You are able to make last minute adjustments that can really bless your community.
There is no other season in life that you are THIS FREE. Use your freedom and time to help others in great need.
Singles, cherish this moment. Cherish the people around you. Don’t rush out of your season of singleness. These are years that you can’t get back. Give everything you have to your singleness in Christ Jesus. Walk Worthy.
The next time someone asks “Hey, why are you still single?”
You could respond, “because this is how God is getting the MOST glory from my life.”
