I recently saw the Marvel movie, “Black Widow.” During the movie, I noticed so many different themes – from a false sense of family, to trust issues, to facing your past and defeating evil. One theme that struck me was Evil Girl Turns Good. A young woman, Natasha Romanoff, was raised and trained to be a killer. However, she ends up using her skills and power to free others in captivity. Natasha had a choice to continue down an evil life path or choose to use her skills for good, becoming an Avenger. Ultimately (in another movie), her life is used for good, when she sacrifices herself, giving humanity a chance at survival.
Just like Natasha, we, too, make daily decisions that lead us down a life path. These decisions include whether or not to give in to our sin and do evil or die to that desire by turning to Christ and doing right. Matthew 7:13-14 says, “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” Natasha had wronged and hurt many people in her life, but that didn’t mean she had to keep going in that direction. The same with us. If we are struggling with anything in our past, or we’ve hurt people, Romans 8:28 reminds us that “…for those who love God, all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” No matter what has happened, God can work it out!
Natasha chose to face the day as a new one, make different choices, and change her life. God can transform you for good and change your life, too. Yes, owning your sin, repenting, and asking for forgiveness is a lot of work, but transformation IS worth it! You are faced daily with amazing opportunities to show the world God’s power and love.
What freedom can be found in Christ! What transformation awaits when evil turns good.
