2. thirst.
A spiritual drought is a form of spiritual crisis, because it is recognized as a time of separation from God.
Are you experiencing spiritual drought? Do you feel a lack of motivation to do the things God has called you to do? Then this is for you!
Below are some biblical tips to help you get back to your spiritual journey with God.
1: Step Away, but Don’t Quit
God has equipped you with gifts and a love to serve Him in His house. That’s why He put that desire in you in the first place. But there will be times where you are exhausted, run-down, or just plain tired and unmotivated. In those times, God wants you to rest in Him instead of quitting the things you love doing for Him. Genesis 1 and 2 says that God made everything in six days and on the seventh day He rested. He did not keep going, He stepped back and rested. Don’t let the Devil win. Do not allow Satan to feed you lies and distract you from rest with more busyness. Take a step back and rest in Him. That fire inside of you will burn brighter if you only allow yourself to take some time to rest and feast on the Word, pray, and worship. We find rest in the Lord by spending time in His presence.
Don’t give the Devil a way to Defeat you. – Ephesians 4:27
Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from Him. – Psalms 62:1
Yes, my soul finds rest in God, my hope comes from him. -Psalms 62:5
2: Remain in Him
The word “remain” means to stay joined, connected, and steadfast. There are times when we drift away from God, and we become too focused on the things around us. This will cause problems to arise. If you continue down this path, you’ll find that your actions towards other people will begin to change. You may notice that your attitude causes pain to others, and your walk with Christ becomes different than what it used to be. You’ll notice a season where your spiritual fruit starts to diminish, and your passion for the things you used to love doing will dwindle. This is the time to go back to who you were in Christ by remaining in Jesus, everyday. We remain in Christ by inviting Jesus into our hearts; the Spirit will stir your heart and this leads to spiritual growth. Jesus doesn’t promise to transform your heart and then leave you. He promises to stay. He wants to walk with you and be with you, everyday. Jesus is constantly transforming you to the person He has called you to be.
I am the vine, you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. -John 15:5-6
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passion and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. – Galatians 5:22-25
3: Pray
In a season of spiritual drought, prayer is a major tool for growth. Do you feel like you are not in the mood to pray? That’s your flesh talking. Do not listen to your flesh, rather listen to the Spirit. You might be saying, “ it’s too hard!!” or “I don’t even know what to pray for. I know it’s hard, especially if you haven’t been down on your knees in the presence of the Lord in a while. Prayer starts by giving thanks to God. Even in your spiritual struggles it may seem that there is nothing you feel thankful for, that’s Satan feeding you lies. The fact that you are reading this Bible plan, living another day, breathing, that is something to praise God for. My encouragement for you today is don’t give up!! Start praying now. Pray everyday, nonstop, and watch how your drought turns into streams of water flowing abundantly. It’s going to take time, it’s going to take work, but be patient even when we don’t see Him or feel Him, God is working in the midst of your praying.
This, then, is how you should pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. – Matthew 6:9-13
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind. Be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. – Ephesians 6:18
Pray Continually. – 1 Thessalonians 5:17
4: Worship Him in Songs
Worship in Spirit. When you sing and worship, you actually take the time to be in the presence of God. Can you imagine Paul and Silas were in prison singing praises to Jesus. If it was me in prison, I wouldn’t be singing and worshiping, I would be angry, questioning the goodness of God. Because of their worship when Paul and Silas were at rock bottom, God saved them from their imprisonment. He literally brought the house down! Worship is a weapon against Satan’s tricks and lies. Paul and Silas show us that even while in the middle of trials and tribulations, we are to praise the name of Jesus. Paul and Silas are just one example of believers praising and worshiping God. There are several people in the Bible that teach us even when our spirits are low, praise Him.
About midnight Paul And Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. – Acts 16:25
The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him. The LORD is a warrior; the LORD is his name. – Exodus 15:1-3
My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior. – Luke 1:47
5: Read Your Bible
The Bible was written over 2,000 years ago. It was written for us to engage and apply it. Spiritual drought causes us to think “Why is God not listening to me or why is He silent?” It causes us to think, “why is my relationship with other people not going well?” When we put away God’s Word, it causes us to fall away from God’s glory, and into a spiritual drought. We need to go back to the Word. Now you may be saying, “ I don’t feel like reading it, I want Him to speak to me without any Bible engagement.” Hold up. God has been speaking to you the whole time. He has been there since the beginning, it’s just that you chose not to be engaged. I want to encourage you that the Bible is God’s way of speaking to you. Even if you don’t feel like reading it, read or watch it anyway. The more you read it, the more you will be able to enjoy His presence and feed your Spirit what it needs to grow. The Bible is here to transform you, the Bible is here to help you.
All Scripture is God- breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. – 2 Timothy 3:16
