The Lord Shines a Light for Bright New Day: Deaf Women’s Conference 21
Written by Dee Collins | ASL by Christie Hoeksema
Sometimes, an idea is formed to fill a need. Sometimes, a dream comes from a deep desire to show a new way, or a better way. Once in a while, through the grace of God, all of those things come together and shine a bright light for a new day ahead.
Proverbs 16:9 says, “A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.” We have seen evidence of this throughout the pandemic. In 2020, plans changed. All of them. But, the Lord did not leave, He was there, stewarding it all. He makes a way when it seems impossible.
In 2020, plans changed. All of them.
2020 closed many doors, but it opened others, too. At the end of April 2021, Deaf Millennial Project leveraged creativity and technology to provide access and spiritual inspiration to Deaf women worldwide through DWC21 (Deaf Women’s Conference 21). The Lord directed the steps of more than 700 Deaf women from 40 states and five countries to an online digital platform created by Deaf people for Deaf people. Together. In one place. Deaf serving Deaf. An idea that came out of a desperate desire to know God and make Him known throughout Deaf communities.
Often, Deaf people are the last to receive access to information, including the Bible and biblical resources. Globally, less than 2% of Deaf people have been introduced to Christ, making Deaf peoples unreached and unengaged.
Through a pandemic came freedom for Deaf women everywhere!
But this day was unique. A gift. It was made to make a difference. Deaf women were spiritually fed by Deaf women leaders from all across the country, delivering strong Ephesians-themed messages. One hundred and forty women gave their lives to Christ. Through a pandemic came freedom for Deaf women everywhere!

The Lord is here. He fills needs. He fulfills dreams. All to shine His glory for a bright new day.
