Shine Brighter, Friend!

Written by: Brandon Gaskin   |   Aug 27, 2021

“As the world grows darker, I’ll shine my light brighter.

As the world grows darker, I’ll show the love of Christ.

As the world grows darker, my life will be a  lamp  for all to see Christ.”

I didn’t expect to turn on the news and see such shocking news. Two bombers decided to take the lives of  12 U.S. military and many civilians in Afghanistan and they are expecting that number to rise over the next few days. I was at a loss for words. Death has struck again in the most terrible way. All that I could think was: is this really happening again? Will this be what my newsfeed is always filled with every month? More tragedy and hate?

As the world grows darker, men will turn more and more against each other. For we know the end time draws near and it is important for us not only to shine our light, but also be ready for Christ. 1 Corinthians 7:29,31 tells us that, “the appointed time has grown short…For the present form of this world is passing away.” The Lord is calling us to be ready, but most of all He’s calling us to shine our light!

As Christians, we have been given a light. And that light either shines bright or not at all. We either show it or hide it. We either point people to Christ or we don’t.

Matthew 5:14-16 says, You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

As Christians, we have been given a light.

And that light either shines bright or not at all.

Read that again.

You and I are representatives of Christ. We have been given a light inside of us that reflects not only the love of Christ, but the work of Christ. As the world grows darker, we must shine brighter. We must become rooted in the Gospel and share it. We might fight the spiritual battle, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places” Ephesians 6:12. The world needs to see the light of Christ. They need to see you and I serving, loving, sharing, and giving all for the sake of the Kingdom.

As the world grows darker, as it falls more into sin, don’t stop shining your light. As you go about your day, shine brighter, friends. Shine for the one true King.
