A few years ago I visited the newly-opened Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C. The museum has a room with bookshelves filled with Bible translations. The books were color coded to visually display which languages of the world currently have a Bible in their heart languages, which languages currently have a translation in progress, and which languages currently have no Bible translation. It was astounding to see just how many thousands of languages in the world still do not have a Bible.
With the completion of the American Sign Language Version (ASLV) from Deaf Missions, we, American Deaf are now blessed to finally have a Bible translation in our own heart language. This is in addition to the multiple English written translations already available to us! Therefore, we do not have an excuse to not view or read God’s Word and know His Truth for ourselves. We need to hide God’s Word in our hearts; in other words, we need to know what God’s Word says so well that it stays in our hearts and minds. This is how we can stay on guard against “the flaming arrows of the evil one” when Satan tempts or attacks us (Ephesians 6:16).
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith
The next time you do not feel like viewing or reading God’s Word, may I encourage you to choose to do it anyways? Like the champions of life we are called to be, “Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:1-2).
Make the choice today to read God’s Word or watch the ASLV. It will strengthen you spiritually, everyday, to know God’s Truth!
